Since 1996, Lucan Harriers has organised a race in memory of one of its founder members, Tom Byrne.  Tom was also one the coaches at the club, and very involved in the Community Games in Lucan

The Tom Byrne Trophy was awarded to the first Lucan man & women home.

The race has evolved over the years, starting off as a race around Lucan village with circa 30 people running, becoming a 5K race in more recent years. The 5K race also evolved through the years, with an evening race for some years, before moving onto Sunday mornings. The race was generally run in MayIn 2015, we joined forces with Lucan Festival in September and had a 5 mile race. The 5 mille race got great feedback as it was the only one of the distance in the area at the time of year.

Over the years, the hospitality at Lucan Harriers became widely known and the after race spread is one to be rivaled.

Thanks to the dedication of the various race committees over the years, the Tom Byrne race has always been a super event, with great feedback.

Once our new track is in place, we look forward to hosting the Tom Byrne race and many other races in Lucan.
